Bucket. Sponge. Hose. The way my dad did it. It took me three years to work out why the black paint was going grey.

Dark paint shows everything. That is the point.
Swirl marks don't come from washing. They come from washing over dirt.
Look at a dark hood under a low sun. Those fine circular scratches, like someone went at it with steel wool. That's swirl. Every dark truck in America has it.
There are two ways it gets there.
The first is the tunnel. Brushes, recycled water, grit from the last hundred cars. Everybody knows that one.
The second is you. A sponge on dirty paint is a sheet of sandpaper. Every pass drags grit across the clear coat. Bucket, sponge, rinse, repeat — you're polishing the dirt in.
Nobody says that out loud. So I'll say it. I was doing it every Saturday, to a truck I'd paid real money for.
Get the dirt off before you touch the paint.
The fix isn't a better sponge. It's an order of operations. Nothing abrasive touches the paint until the dirt is already gone.
Thirty minutes, start to dry. That's it.
Water, a driveway, and thirty minutes.
You need water. A hose is ideal. A bucket does the job — pour, don't scrub.
You don't need a pressure washer. The sprayer is a hand pump. Fifteen strokes and it's charged.

The Wash. Then the Top-Up.
The Wash
- Start with the vehicle dry
- Pre-Wash the dirty half first — lower panels, sides, front and rear. Dwell 2–3 min
- Rinse thoroughly
- Snow Foam the whole vehicle. Dwell 3–5 min
- Mitt wash over the foam, using the Snow Foam as the wash soap. Top to bottom
- Rinse thoroughly
- Dry with a microfiber drying towel

The Top-Up
- Start with the vehicle dry — and only lightly dusted
- Pre-Wash the dirty half. Dwell 2–3 min
- Snow Foam over the top — no rinse in between. Dwell 3–5 min
- Rinse thoroughly
- Dry with a microfiber drying towel
For a dusty truck between proper washes. It still needs a rinse.
One sprayer for each stage.

Do I need a hose?
You need water. A hose is ideal. Buckets do the job — pour, don't scrub.
Will this remove the swirl marks I've already got?
No. Swirls are scratches in the clear coat, and only polishing takes them out. What this does is stop you adding new ones every wash.
Do I need a pressure washer?
No. The sprayer is a hand pump. About twenty seconds of spray per pump-up, then five or six more strokes and carry on.
How many washes do I get?
8–10 on a car, 6–8 on a full-size truck. Each wash uses one dose of Pre-Wash and one of Snow Foam, so a pair of bottles is one set of washes.
How long does it take?
Thirty minutes, start to dry. The Top-Up on a lightly dusted vehicle is quicker.
